I have to stop reading character profile and character sheets.
I just came across the DAWGS contest group
[link] and was reading some character sheets. One artist in particular has a horrible trend of almost impossibly underweight hugely tall characters.
People, you cannot be 137lbs and 6'3". Not without being deathly skinny. Or having hollow bones.
I'm 5'10". The smallest I've been at that height was a size 29 waist, 130 lbs. And my doctor told me I was very underweight. I knew someone who 6'4", 185lbs, size 32 waist. When you get to that tall, and that thin... it's not usually very attractive. It starts to become awkward looking. Storkish. Disproportionate.
I know it's their character and they can live in whatever fantasy world they like, but we get to a point where what they're saying about their characters is just a bit too far fetched.
Please, please do not pull weights out of thin air when you are doing a full character profile complete with height and weight. Check out the body mass index (BMI) for what the ideal weight is and then judge from there by how skinny or overweight you want them to be. Pay attention to how skinny you're character can be without being considered anorexic... unless that's what you're going for.
Heck, even if what you were going for was the lean muscle, weathered, thin look... remember muscle actually weighs A LOT. 1lb of fat is at least twice the size of 1lb of muscle.
Realism doesn't kill your character.
